The Old White Bear is keen to support the local community with differnet initiatives. We currently sponsor two local sporting teams; Cross Hills rounders and Glusburn Cricket Club. We contribute towards the team clothes and provide post match food for all team members on match days.

As well as the cricket team, we are also proud sponsors of the Cross Hills Crusaders rounders team. Cross Hills Crusaders recently played in a tournament at Sandylands in Skipton. We beat Cowling, Otley and Skipton Sloggers, before being knocked out by Bentham. Skipton Springbox won the tournament. Well done to our Cross Hills girls. Next year we are hoping that an official league will be set up for Cross Hills Crusaders to play in, so watch this space.
On the same theme as sports teams, we have recently teamed up with local cricket club Airedale Taverners. Based at Airedale General Hospital, Keighley, the Taverners are made up from staff, ex-staff and family of the works department. Currently playing on a Wednesday night against teams from the local area, the lads can then be found having some well deserved grub and a few pints discussing the evenings fixture.
Alongside supporting our local sports teams, here at The Old White Bear we are also very proactive in raising money for our local charities. Throughout April and May, we held a “ring the bull” tournament, with a mixture of 32 staff and customers all paying an entrance fee to become “bull ring champion”, with all proceeds going to the Manorlands Charity. After a gruelling final, Roger Baxandall was crowned the champion, with almost £200 being raised for the charity. Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to holding the tournament very soon in the near future.
Children Today is the newest charity we have teamed up with, with one of our customers, Josephine Teale, tackling a six day trek in China to help disabled children. The charity provides life-changing equipment for disabled children and young people across the UK. Her trip will last for ten days in total and she will begin her walk in Beijing. Her fundraising target is £3000, and anybody wishing to help support this target can do so by clicking here. A bit closer to home, we are also holding a day to support this charity in the pub on Saturday 2nd July, from 2pm. There are some fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs, including a free M.O.T, a game for 4 people at Quazak, and a free Shellac nail session. Outside in the garden further activities will be taking place, with the chance to throw web sponges at one of pour regular cuwstomers, Steve “The Doctor” Ingham. All proceeds from the throwing will be given to the charity, and I’m sure people will be queuing up to do so, so come down early for your chance to soak The Doc!
Places are also still available for anyone wishing to join Josephine on her walk, with more information available by contacting Ceri at Children Today on 01244 335622. Best of look Josephine!
